Principle Designer
Post-Disaster Rebuild | Elevated Design | Resilient Coastal Living
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, Sanibel Island faced unprecedented devastation as storm surges up to eight feet submerged homes, infrastructure, and landscapes across the region. Among the many structures impacted was a single-story, three-bedroom, two-bathroom beach house—entirely overtaken by floodwaters and rendered uninhabitable.
Sanibel Recovery Renovation represents both a response to that destruction and a vision for resilient, future-forward coastal living. Tasked with reconstructing the home, we reimagined the structure within the framework of updated post-hurricane building codes. The result: a contemporary two-story residence that elevates all living space above potential future flood levels.
The new design retains the original bedroom and bathroom count but shifts the entirety of the living quarters to the second floor, safely above ground-level threats. The lower level now functions solely for storage and access, intentionally built to withstand potential storm surges. Above, open-plan interiors, expansive windows, and coastal-inspired finishes define a modern, light-filled sanctuary just steps from the shore.
Clad in durable, weather-resistant materials and engineered for long-term resilience, the finished home is more than a renovation—it's a symbol of renewal. Sanibel Recovery Renovation combines elevated contemporary design with smart adaptation, ensuring this beachside retreat stands strong for decades to come.
